Have your say and Check the Register

Waterford City and County Council, along with the country’s thirty Local Authorities, is encouraging everyone to checktheregister.ie

Even if you’re already registered to vote, now is the time to check and either confirm or update your details by providing your PPSN, Eircode and Date of Birth.

By confirming or updating information, adding these details allows local authorities to cross-check and confirm the information provided by each person, adding to the integrity of the process.

Kieran Kehoe, Director of Services, Waterford City and County Council said, “While it’s a quick and easy process to check the register, it is one that has huge implications as it allows everyone who is eligible to vote to rightfully have a say in shaping Ireland’s future.

“All people need to do is visit the site and check that their details are up to date.  For those who have changed address or moved to a new electoral area, they can follow the step by step guide on the site that will ensure the accuracy of the electoral register. The use of PPSNs facilitate identity checking, so now most people won’t have to visit a Garda station to have forms witnessed.”

Mr. Kehoe added, “16- and 17-year-olds will also be able to pre-register to vote on the site. Once they turn 18, they will be automatically added to the register.

“Additionally, there are other new features such as registration for persons who have no fixed address or for persons who for limited reasons need to avail of anonymous registration.  These add to the already available option for those who live in nursing homes or healthcare institutions, who for reasons of illness or disability, are unable to attend their polling station to vote and can therefore apply to be added to the special voters list.”

While changes and updates can be made by visiting www.checktheregister.ie, Waterford City and County Council will hold a series of registration information events, to assist people with updating or confirming their details.

These information sessions will be held between 10am and 3pm at:

  • City Square Shopping Centre on Friday, October 20th
  • Dungarvan Shopping Centre on Friday, October 27th
  • Quish’s SuperValu, Tramore on Friday, November 10th
  • Waterford Shopping Centre Lisduggan on Friday, November 17th

The Waterford City and County Council registration team will be on hand for anyone who needs assistance in accessing the site.  All you need to provide is your PPSN, date of birth and proof of address.

To confirm or update your details visit www.checktheregister.ie.  Alternatively, call along to one of four registration information sessions in Waterford city and county, call Waterford City and County Council on 0818 10 20 20 or email franchise@waterfordcouncil.ie
